what do you mean by mineral mapping?

if you are interested in minerals for geological mapping, I think Landsat 7 ETM+ images are suitable using Sultan's band ratio technique.

and if your are seeking mineralization through alteration zone mapping, you can compose both mineral composite and hydrothermal composite ratio images.

also feature-oriented PCA can help in delineation of alteration zones.

At present moment ASTER data is better option for geological mapping since its giving good spatial and spectral resolution. however, if it is in hyperspectral such as hyperion it would be best to get the precious mineral information. But it is not available

for all the regions. You may check is there any space borne hyperspectral data available for your study location. good luck
