The Stata procedure metaprop will undertake a fixed or random effects meta analysis for you. It will generate the pooled incidence rate, 95% CI, a forest plot, and test of heterogeneity.

If you wish to do the calculations yourself, then you could try the Freeman-Tukey Double Arcsine Transformation (Freeman, M. F. , and Tukey, J. W. 1950).

Thank you Adrian. I managed to perform meta-analysis with r (metafor) with Freeman Tukey Double Arsine Transformation. The results I get are higher than reported in literature before. I want to report results as %. Do I need to transform the results after computation before reporting.

It required Freeman Tukey transformation and after analysis back transformation of the results. The guideline provided in the link above are very helpful.

As incidence rate is not a proportion but it is a rate, so how can we use metaprop to pooled the incidence rates?

we were planning to report cumulative incidence not incidence rate. Cumulative incidence otherwise called incidence proportion is a proportion.
