SPSS 26 seems to differ from previous versions in that there is no option to choose 'non-active dataset is keyed table' during the menu merge process. I have searched online and cant see any syntax which would allow this specific action. Does any one know this syntax? Many thanks.
Update: it looks like SPSS 26 does this 'non-active keyset is keyed table' automatically now within the menu systems
Andrea L. Darling , SPSS has made it complicated. In previous version you could use TABLE to indicate the 'non-active keyset is keyed table' . TABLE has been replace with file as it conforms to SQL.
You can still use it, if you are sure your files are sorted correctly. It is a lot quicker and easier to understand. The command would be like:
MATCH FILES /FILE=*
/TABLE='non-active keyset is keyed table'
/BY keys (KeyOne, KeyTwo etc) .
EXECUTE.
Hello Peter Moorer . I find your statement "TABLE has been replace[d] with file as it conforms to SQL" confusing. As the Command Syntax Reference entry for MATCH FILES shows (link below), both FILE and TABLE sub-commands are still there, and they work the same way they always have. (Perhaps I misunderstood you?) Judging by what Andrea L. Darling wrote, the only thing that has changed is the GUI interface to MATCH FILES, and which option it shows as the default.

Andrea, as Peter suggested, it might be easier for you to keep a template of the MATCH FILES command syntax somewhere you can find it, and edit as needed.

Bruce Weaver , Andrea L. Darling mentions the menu and that uses the FILE subsyntax. I reacted on the use of the menu. You can not let SPSS know you want to use TABLE instead. Working with a syntax is easier asa you can use TABLE when you have the file in the required sorting order. It sure is faster when you have to join several files.
