I did some PDA plates and grew Cercospora oryzae, but it is growing so slowly. I was wondering if someone knows which medium is the best for growing Cercospora?
It isone among the growing Phyto-pathogen like Venturia, Phaseoropsis and others if possible try V8 Juice medium or Malt extract agar. The best medium is PDA but make your own PDA donot use readymade (Hydrated) we have observed very slow growth of readymade PDA than self prepared
Cercospora is a slow growing fungus. Most grow only a few mm per day under optimal conditions (generally between 2 and 5 mm depending on the species). While PDA will often show some of the fastest growth, it is not a good medium as sectoring tends to be high. We generally use either V8-juice agar or host leaf extract agar. The growth is not faster than on PDA, but we see less variability.
