I have two different brands of methylcellulose (MC). One has a viscosity of 15 cP (MC 15) while the other has 4,000 cP (MC 4,000). MC 15 yields a clearer and less viscous solution when dissolved in water. Please what is the difference between the two polymers in terms of their physical and chemical properties? Also, which one is a better polymer for solid polymer electrolyte application?

Generally speaking, the one with higher viscosity has larger molecular weight. Hence it exhibits superior physical&mechanical properties, such as higher glass transition temperature; and what's more it can be more stable than its counterpart from chemical perspective. As for solid polymer electrolyte application, it's outside my knowledge&experience.
As you know the viscosity of polymer solution has direct relation to molecular weight, so the mc with 4000 cp viscosity is more chemical resistant and also better mechanical properties. But in the case of electrolytes , if its chain mobility is important , you have to select low molecular weight grade.
