May i use the SALTS OF Ni2+ at the place of Ni2+ for inducing the promoter activity

I am using a inducible expression vector for expression of gene. The promoter in this vector will induce in the presence of 5 uM Ni2+. I have salts of Ni2+, so will nickel salt work?
