When you se parate the ions in m/z in MALDI-TOFF you have an absorption-ionization matrix of a material of agarose. How does this selection affect the Time of flight, why would you pick this material and what does it do? I understand there is some kind of freezing process, containing ions on the matrix, but why agarose and why is it so important (how many materials is there to pick?)

Does this mean agarose is of major scope? The one you would normally use... For its properties?
