I had obtained the answers below from the site Quora and similar answer was provided from ABAQUS manual

Larger of the two surface should act as Master surface.

Stiffer body should act as master surface.

Coarse mesh should act as master surface. Mehdi Eskandarzade

Master/slave has the advantage of making the computation a bit faster (since only slave nodes are checked) and of avoiding gaps forming (for the prize of possible overlap of material). If you can, always use the abaqus general contact, it is usually very good.
