As we know that magnetic particles like Fe3O4 particles will align along the magnetic field and probably form a spike-like structure in bulky powder state. The interparticles are magnetized and attracted to each other so that they align to the magnetic field linearly.

I just wonder whether we could have magnetic particles that can be response to the magnetic field but individual particles dont attract to each other so that a linear alignment will not form. It seems to be impossible but it will be very interesting if we have this material. Does anyone know this?
