Uncontrolled production of pro-inflammatory mediators contributes to ARDS and cytokine storm syndrome. Hence, Macrophage-based vaccine is a potential vaccine candidate for SARS-CoV-2.

Infected macrophages will be able to present viral antigens, as antigen-presenting cells.
