I want to verify a model for the downdraft gasification. It could be done either using experimental results or comparing new results with proven model results. The initial conditions for modeling are initial surface area (m2/m3) and porosity (m3/m3) of the char, mass composition of feedstock (%) – fixed carbon, ash, C, H, O and LHV (MJ/kg). LHV is not necessary, since it could be estimated.

Do you have H&MB, Coal/coke ultimate and proximate analysis available with you? if yes, then you can run the same on Honeywell Unisim design suit a modelling software. This design suit has got Gasifier as in built unit operation which will convege based on the inputs asked above.

Thank you for your answer Mr. Choudhary. I have looked through the description of the UniSim Design Suite. As I understand, this software allows you to use your own model but it does not have its own integrated solution for kinetic modeling of gasification. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks again for a paper. I will try to use it for validation of downdraft model or for a new model.

UniSim software platform allows you to create your own steady state model of Gasifier as it has in built reaction kinetics for the reactions mainly, Boudouard, water-gas, methanation & combustion reaction etc. The software has addressed kinetics of common heterogeneous & homogeneous reactions quite well over the other software in the market. It allows you to build and run model fairly close to your plant results, especially for all the gasification process of which syngas generation is between 800 to 1500 deg C. You don’t need to build PFR, Gibbs, CSTR separately. If you are interested to know more I can send you the abstract from manual. Or if you have access to manual please refer to section 10.10 gasifier.
