While preparing an encyclopedic entry on Habib Zayyāt—renowned Syrian writer and orientalist—I have encountered a noticeable absence of comprehensive and coherent biographical sources on his life, especially in European languages. This is surprising given Zayyāt’s significant role in Oriental studies, manuscript research, and the intellectual history of both Islamic and Eastern Christian traditions.

He corresponded with major Orientalists of his time, including Louis Massignon, David S. Margoliouth, and Carlo Nallino, and devoted decades to the study and preservation of rare manuscripts. Although some references to his work appear in scholarly literature, a detailed and unified account of his life and scholarly trajectory remains elusive.

I kindly invite scholars and researchers to share any reliable sources, biographical materials, or archival references related to the life of Habib Zayyāt.

Thank you in advance for your contributions.
