I am currently working on light scattering simulations; I have figured out a way to simulate the light source (any wavelength in the visible spectrum). I would like to know if there is a way to simulate an aqueous sugar solution along with electrolytes in a glass container, in order to observe the scattering effect by sugar molecules and electrolytes in the solution. I am using COMSOL for the simulation. Also, please suggest if there is any open source/ stand-alone software to carry out the same.

To calculate the scattering of a nanoparticle in the air you can follow the following models

You will find that for the wavevector and materials is defined for air K0,n0, then if you replace it with another medium you have to redefine them with the geometry and properties of your medium.
The PML will extend your domain to be infinite.
If are planning to determine the Mie scattering of the analyte molecule, you have to keep in mind that it depends on the particle size, to have an effective scattering of nanoparticles at the visible light it has to be few tens of nanometers depending on the wavelength of light and material type of the nanoparticles.

Particle tracking would be a completely novel approach to such a problem. I'm only aware of one code that might come close to approximating such a process: PTRAX. It's free on my web site. I've attached a figure that illustrates how versatile the model is.
