Does the stearates added to metals powders during compaction are completely removed during sintering or some residues are left behind. In case if residues are left, how does they be tackled.
This depends on your used atmosphere for sintering. Full removal of residues is possible under a reducing atmosphere like hydrogene or cracked ammonia. For sintering under vacuum stearates are not the first choice for cold pressing lubricants. Common lubricants are modern micro waxes like Starmix Boost from Höganäs. These lubricants reduce the tool wear during cold pressing and increase the green strength at lower pressing forces. Follow the recommendations of the supplier to optimize the dewaxing process to minimze residues.
