I'm not sure if this would be helpful for you, but one of my studies reported the interrelationship between various objective measures of L2 speaking performance in relation to their contributions to listener-based judgements of comprehensibility and fluency. The correlation data between different pronunciation measures are included in the supplementary data, but there were medium-to-strong positive relationships between segmental error rate, word stress error rate, syllable structure error rate, and vowel reduction rate (i.e., rhythm).

Dear Fabian, your interesting question reminded me of the prosodic bootstrapping hypothesis, where prosodic properties are supposed to serve as cues to identify other aspects of grammar. What most people understand by that however is the cueing of syntactic structures. The relationship between stress and segmental structure (vowel quality) in native and non-native use of English is rather obvious (see Anne Cutler's various work, also Braun, Lemhöfer, and Mani (2011)). I think what would probably be interesting for English is the L2 acquisition of vowel quality in unstressed syllables. Concerning rhythm, the fact that many L2 varieties of English have lower PVI values than native Englishes (see Low 2015) may suggest that speech addressed to non-native speakers is likely to also show lower PVI values--not sure if anybody has tested this though. If this were proven to be the case, it might make the prediction that more "syllable-timed" rhythms make speech more intelligible for non-native speakers thus may help with the acquisition of segmental structure.

Dear Baris Kabak. I completely agree with you. The interactions between prosody and phonetics are better examined in L1/L2 English, mostly in light of the acquisition of rhythm patterns as you say. Recently, I have carried out an exploratory study in L2 French to examine the prosodic strengthening hypothesis. The idea was to study to what extent phonological features of L2 French accented vowels are hyper-articulated than their unaccented counterparts by Spanish and British learners.
