I am a relatively new user of Itasca's PFC 3D (ver 5.0) DEM software. I am conducting simulations of triaxial compression tests on a soil specimen that is modeled with the linear contact model (with rolling resistance). At the end of the test, I would like to know the amount of particles that are predominately sliding, rotating, or neither. Is there a way to obtain this information in PFC, and if so, how? Thanks so much!

You can use a Fish function to loop over all of the contacts, and easily find those that are slipping (in sliding and rolling) by checking the slip state of the contact model. Then you tag the two particles in contact accordingly.
Are you using a built-in contact model or a user-defined model?
Damon Nguyen yes that will work. However, the slip condition is already calculated by the contact model so you do not have to calculate it again.
For the linear model for example you can simply check if the variable 'lin_slip' is true or false (1 or 0) and similarly for the Hertz model you check 'hz_slip'. If you are using the linear adhesion model with rolling friction, you can check 'lin_slip' for sliding and 'rr_slip' for rolling. You will find these variables listed for each of the built-in contact models in the help file.
