I have finded a bloody nosed beetle in Centre Tunisa (North Africa). Im PhD and I hope you help me to identify (to confirm) this specie which I think it's Timarcha tenebricosa
I can confirm the genus Timarcha Latreille, 1829. But it is not T. tenebricosa. This species does not occur in Tunisia. There is a larger number of species belonging to different subgenera in Tunisia: Timarcha brachydera Fairmaire, 1873, T. generosa Erichson, 1841, T. laevigata Linnaeus, 1767, T. latipes Linnaeus, 1767, T. marani Bechyne, 1948, T. rugosa Linnaeus, 1767, T. staneki Bechyne, 1944, T. taborskyi Bechyne, 1944, T. tarsata Bechyne, 1944 and T. tunisea Pic, 1919. Several species are endemic to the country and the genus is strongly needed to be revised! The identification is only possible comparing the specimens with type material in some cases. Maybe you can ask a leaf beetle specialist (like Lech Borowiec) in case of having a really large sized species with remarkable long legs. Otherwise he possibly can tell you someone who knows the species from North Africa. I am not able to identify it on species level.
No, T. goettingensis does also not occur in North Africa. Both, T. tenebricosa and T. goettingensis are species of the European continent. Only species in my list above are occuring in Tunisia.
