I have some samples manufactured by welding: overlays from an austenitic material applied on a martensitic base material. Is it possible to analyse the residual stresses using a FEM software?
Xizhang Chen is absolutely right. It is not only possible, but there are many published examples of such FE models - just search the literature. Here is one paper for which I contributed experimental data (the FEM work was done by Dr. Bostjan Taljat, who was at ORNL at the time):

Do you consider residual stress as a result of thermal stress?
Or you consider residual stress because of the manufacturing stress( except thermal working)?
