I'm a bit confused about Tobemorite and C-S-H concept. I'm looking for some pattern list on X'pert and I found tobemorite and many types of C-S-H to be compatible with my XRD sample. So, is tobemorite a type os C-S-H? I mean, I read a lot of paper those say C-S-H is amorphous phase, but it seens tobemorite is cristalline, right? Can everyone explane me the difference among the many types of Calsium Silicate Hydrate? Thanks
Well, I don't know what other requirements there might be to be labeled a C-S-H layer,, but torbermorite is a calcium-silicate-hydrate, so I am guessing it is classified as C-S-H.
Thanks, Joseph S Merola . I'm was a little confunsing that cause literature says C-S-H is amorphous. So, I can see now C-S-H that it might be either amorphos and cristalline phase.
C-S-H is poorly ordered, rather than amorphous. There are structural features to C-S-H which resemble some of those found in tobermorite. I would recommend that you read some of the work by Prof. Ian Richardson on C-S-H structure.

Yes Tobermorite IS a type of C-S-H. By definition C-S-H means a compound with different proportions of CaO, SiO2 and H2O. Take a look at the attached figure ( John, Elisabeth, Thomas Matschei, and Dietmar Stephan. "Nucleation seeding with calcium silicate hydrate–A review." Cement and Concrete Research (2018)).
You can see that there is an entire spectrum of products that fall under this category and Tobermorite is one of them.
But here you are probably wondering if it is the same as the C-S-H which is a product of cement hydration. You can see 2 products in the figure names C-S-H (I) and C-S-H (II) in the middle of the spectrum and they correspond to the C-S-H in cement. They vary from tobermorite basically wrt the Ca/Si and Ca/H2O ratio and consequently wrt properties such as crystallinity etc.
