Usually we talk about multimodal communication as that resulting from the simultaneous work of two different codes when transmitting a message. Nevertheless, there are many examples of multimodal communications: the sum of the kinesthetic gesture and the intonational gesture, the sum of an image and a text in a cartoon, for instance. Is there anything that connects all of them besides the sum of two codes? i.e., is there multimodal communication as a concept?
