Data collected through a Position generator (PG) should allow you to do a compositional (network) analysis. Hence, you should be able to perform it through standard softwares for statistical analysis, such us R, SPSS or STATA.

The use of Ucinet or other softwares for network analysis (e.g. Visone) are especially useful for structural (network) analysis. This imply you have also collected data on the alter-alter relations (that is, an adjacency matrix) with a Name generator (NG).

I only have a position generator and i have already been working on mean of contacts, contact status, range, maximum status, etc.. similar to what is shown in Van der Gaag, Snijders & Flap (2004) and most of the work with PG i have seen.. with mean comparisson by social class, correlations, regressions and path analysis using SPSS and Stata, and R for graphics (ggplot2).

What i want to know is what other type of analysis i can perform with PG. I have never used other software for network analysis but im interested in starting and wanted to know if it made sense to use it with a PG because it´s the only measure available to me.

Hello Joaquin,

These softwares are normally used to visualize (and analyze) sociograms. I do believe you do not need to use it with PG data.
