The process of producing diesel-water emulsion needs most of the time the aid of a surfactants or service active agent. Most of these materials are chemical ones not organic and cost highly.
The most common surfactants used in the water-in-diesel emulsion are sorbitan monooleate and polyethylene glycol sorbitan monooleate mixture, polyethylene glycol sorbitan monooleate (polysorbate 80) and sorbitol sesquioleate (SSO) mixture, sorbitan monolaurat, gemini, polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether solgen 40 and noigen TDS-30 (dai-ichi kogyo seiyaku), polysorbate 20 (commercially known as tween 20), detergent/liquid soap, and t-octylphenoxy polyethoxy ethanol.
