Many researchers using transesterification process to produce biodiesel from yellow grease (disposal oil) of corn oil or any other resource. In this process methanol is added to oil with a catalyst which is NaOH or KOH. Which one of these substances is better to be used and why.

Besides the explanations given above KOH is more expensive than NaOH.
In our plant we do not use hydroxides. We use sodium methoxide to avoid water formation and soap formation. Ffnal Biodiesel is more fine.

I repeat for clarity: NaOH os less costly, works equally fine in transesterification as KOH, but the glycerine phase will have lower value if the byproduct will end up in soil.

Do you mean that potassium hydroxide better as it results in useful glycerin for anther application. What about the resulted bio-diesel?

NaoH or KoH do not influence the quality of biodiesel, whereas the respective salts obtained after the purification of glycerol gives a major impact. Potassium phosphate salts can be used in the fertilizer industry.

Both are economical and can be used in the synthesis process. But the stability is high for KOH than the other. So, KOH can be easily disperse with ethanol and other combination. They also helps to remove fatty acids
Both are effective catalysts for biodiesel production. At the same molar concentration KOH is more active, but at the weight percentage their catalytic activities are approximately equal.
