I am looking for RESTful API for accessing public information on Researchgate. API's for different social networks are available but I didn't find any for Researchgate.net.
Although promised by one of the core members of the platform in 2011 (https://www.quora.com/Does-ResearchGate-offer-an-API-for-external-service-or-social-communities-in-order-to-crosspost-content-from-Facebook-i-e-to-ResearchGate) and again in 2013 (http://venturevillage.eu/researchgate), as of now there is no API. If I haven't overlooked anything it is not even possible to download the data for one's own publications. Also, the three plugins offered in the "Developers" section only allow to visualize, but not inject data.
Hi, to my knowledge there is no API for collecting RG's users data(public data of course); I suggest you could crawl RG and then scrape the pages to extract the information you may need, it's quite simple i suppose; you can use wget + JSoup to do it.
I'd also be interested in an API. After perusing how search results are displayed, I am not interested in screen scraping. Plus, ResearchGate policy might prohibit it.
Seems a shame to not have an API for what appears to be a rich data source to report on internally within my institution.

It can be a strategic mistake by Research Gate for not offering an API till now.
Recently in 2015, Linkedin locked down its API. http://techcrunch.com/2015/02/12/linkedin-battens-down-the-hatches-on-api-use-limiting-full-access-to-partners/
It can be an opportunity for Research Gate to differentiate itself and be a leader in specialized social network for researchers.
Otherwise, Research Gate can lose market share to academia.edu and others.
I've been following this question for a while and am wondering whether perhaps ResearchGate is not interested in open-source principles when it comes to interactions among scholars?
I wonder if it would be useful to discuss ideas related to open-source, democratic, programmatic analysis of scholarly work and interaction on a separate forum. Hence the slack channel. So let me know what you think.
Hello, the alternatives for Researchgate API that you say, do not help me, are already outdated. Please, if any of you has an active system that uses an API for RG or a scraping, please contact me. Greetings and many thanks.
There is no direct API to access the data like FB or Google. However, you can get job or institute or department details by their plugin api. You can integrate in your website too, like FB card.
