I posted in ResearchGate a Paper  (downloadable) that in our aim was oriented to present our activity as Centro Studi, a Company devoted to develop knowledge, mainly, but not only,  to the benefit of a Privately Owned Group (www.orizzontiholding.it). The website is also in english version.

We have envisaged a strict relation between the innovation capacity and therefore knowledge strategy of a Company and the results achieved . E.g. I worked for 3M in the early 70' and I had evidence there how  the success Strategy of a Company  could be stricly related to the capacity of developing, within the Project Strategy a synergy between innovation and process development . That is: knowledge!

I hope that in the mentioned  Paper you can find  supplementary evidence of it.

Project and Knowledge strategy are related topics. In order to get better returns on investments many forward looking organization are integrating the two strategies to realize Knowledge-enriched solution for Project Management.

There are some overlaps however. You will gain more productivity and improved efficiencies if you combined the two strategies.

Stricto senso, the Knowledge strategy MUST discover the NEEDS. The NEEDS are the first input in the Project (strategy or on-going).

Knowledge strategy is primarily concerned with knowledge assimilation, creation, development and application, while project strategy deals with implementation of the project for the intended purpose. Both are interrelated as knowledge application leads to effective project implementation.

Hi Aniko. The issue you raised is quite vague and can be very broad in terms of multidisciplinary  research. Project strategy applicable to from the Engineering to Construction scope; Product development to Business Venture scope; Human development to Society development scope. Thus, the research focus will determine whether the Knowledge strategy can be relevant to the study.

On the other hands, Knowledge strategy itself is now a dynamic discipline. From MIS to ICT and now the Business Intelligence and Competitive Intelligence needs a diverse perspective to be researched.

Somehow to integrate the two scope is also viable depending on your research scope and objectives. Testing of the relationship is subject to the research construct (based on relevant theory and previous literature) and the measures or items to be used for data collection.

Hi Aniko. You will find it useful to develop a typology of project types and look at these in terms of knowledge intensity and knowledge specialisation. A project to repair a road has very different knowledge requirements than a project to put a space craft on to Mars! So your question will need to be elaborated before it can be investigated.

Well, since we can describe a Project as an information-related activity (even more: an information add-up activity), any Project strategy must be linked to the company KM strategy. Otherwise, it will probably fail.

Speaking generally about the influencing factors between PS and KS. If I deconstruct the concept of project strategy all I will find is a series of processes and systems structured in a way that will support the successful completion of a specific strategic project VISION (objectives/outcomes).

Accepting this concept, it becomes evident that when we talk about project strategy we need to focus on the vision that brought such a strategy to life, rather than the systems and processes that were designed and implemented to help realize a strategic vision.

When I consider the concept of knowledge strategy, I see this as project management personnel having the operational skills, experience, resources, and above all, a clear understanding of the strategic vision, objectives and targets. Knowledge management follows as the process of evaluating and documenting the successes and failures of the strategy implementation, and using that gained knowledge to continuously improve a project’s systems, structures and processes, and ultimately improving the chances of the current and future project successes.

If this being the case. The relationship between project strategy and knowledge strategy would have to focus on the influence the strategic vision will have on the design of the project’s systems, structures and processes, as well as the human relationship element, which will ultimately influence a project’s chances of success through the systematic management of the pre production and post project knowledge.

Projects ought to be vehicles for both practical benefits and organizational learning. However, if an organization is designed for the long term, a project exists only for its duration. Project-based organizations face an awkward dilemma: the project-centric nature of their work makes knowledge management, hence learning, difficult. Without a knowledge Strategy many projects  become a dream! The balanced score card approach is related  to visualize " also " the knowledge factors  proper equilibrium on Company Projects!

2. Knowledge Strategy is related to project strategy. This is because knowledge strategy is related to organizational and individual learning. 

3. Individual learning in turn is related to project performance.
