Is there any relationship between curcumin content in rhizomes and taste?

Curcumin is considered to have bitter in flavour, though synthetic version is tasteless and odourless. The curcumin extracted from rhizomes is reported to have bitter taste. I would like to know if there is any relatioship between bitterness and curcumin content of turmeric powder.
