I'm trying to find some quantitative measurement for study of the hydrophobic force in self-assemble. Now, i only know that we can get some information of contact angle, but this kind measurement is limited. And i think the assemble environment (solid-liquid) would be different to the contact angle measurement environment (solid-liquid-air). I'm not sure the hydrophobicity determined from the contact angle can be also accurate in the solid-liquid interface. If possible, i want to quantitatively study the hydrophobic interaction with different measurement technique.
If you measure water contact angle, surface roughness and functional groups available on the top surface, you can define the hydrophobic mechanism.

i will suggest you to go for the water contact angle and through that you can find the force.
unfortunately I am not agree with friends who suggest contact angle for quantification of hydrophobic forces. Contact angle will be affected by surface roughness and composition, environmental noises (such as humidity, water purity, etc.). Hysteresis will definitely kill your experiment in contact angle measurements!!!
The best possible technique for hydrophobic force measurement is using AFM / AFS. These tools measure direct force and interaction between hydrophobic bodies which can be quantified by force-distance curves (this method is well described in literature).
I also can suggest AFM for the hydrophobicity measurements as Behzad and Saeed detailed above.
