As known to all, for the metastable titanium alloys or near beta titanium alloys,during the cooling the precipitation of alpha phase occurs with a relationship of Burgers orientation relationship with beta matrix. Does anyone know whether there exists any priority in the precipitation, I mean if one alpha precipitate occurs, what's the influence of it on the variants selection subsequent? Besides, will all 12 variants be present in local area?
Usually the twinned variant compensates the local stress so that often packages of twins appear in microstructures but this is from my point of view only a planar effect. If I remember correctly, the published areas using EBSD mapping always showed practically all variant but with different weight. From my point of view this is only the result of the comparatively small grain size of beta or the big size of alpha lathes. The same happens for gamma/alpha transformation in steel if not all variants appear.
@ Gert Nolze ,Thank you for the information shared with me. Based on your knowledge about the area mapping with EBSD, if we want to include all alpha variants into one map then what's the right size of the map should be selected? I mean 20*20 microns or even larger?
