If we use material other than silica in making Photonic crystal fiber, will it be possible to get a peak in effective refractive index in that material based PCF?
The unique properties of PCFs have intrigued the sensor community. Many research groups around the world have investigated different schemes which exploit the properties or structure of PCFs with a view to developing new optical sensors. Like a conventional optical fiber the propagation properties of a PCF can be modulated by external parameters such as strain, temperature, and pressure. However, they can also be modulated with liquids or gases infiltrated into the voids of the PCF. It is, therefore, desirable to investigate new schemes which exploit the properties of PCFs with a view to developing new optical sensors.
