I want to know if there is any method available to clearly differentiate between different prostaglandins (PGE2; PGF2a; PHG2 etc.). I am looking for a method such as thin layer chromatography where I can quickly screen for the presence of these different prostaglandins. There are TLC protocols available but they date back to 1960's. I tried some of these methods without much success. I want to know if anyone is still using similar approaches or if there is another method available.
Thin layer chromatography does not offer enough separation to distinguish between these molecules. Do you have access to an HPLC or a mass spectrometer? These methods are best.
TLC is not the best method, but has been recently used with some success (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22972491). However, the trend nowadays is to employ LC-MS/MS (see, for example, Golovko & Murphy, J Lipid Res 49: 893-902, 2008). Good luck, Alex
