Frederick Winslow Taylor, born March 20, 1856 in Germantown (Pennsylvania) and died March 21. His methods and principles from 1890 to Bethlehem Steel. His booklet The Principles of Scientific Management appeared in 1911, was translated into French in 1912 and was a source of inspiration for Henri Fayol.

We can also quote Joseph-Marie JACQUARD (1752-1834) - French inventor of the loom - and, of course, Henri FORD (1863-1947) - American self-made-man become the world leader in the automobile sector: its method consisted to rationalize the production processes to create a car accessible to as many people as possible.

The Arthashastra (Sanskrit) is an ancient Indian treatise on statecraft, economic policy and military strategy, written in Sanskrit. Kautilya, also identified as Vishnugupta and Chanakya, is traditionally credited as the author of the text. The latter was a scholar at Takshashila, the teacher and guardian of Emperor Chandragupta Maurya. Composed, expanded and redacted between the 2nd century BCE and 3rd century CE, the Arthashastra was influential until the 12th century, when it disappeared. It was rediscovered in 1905 by R. Shamasastry, who published it in 1909.[12] The first English translation was published in 1915.

English translations by many are available in India.

Though I have not read all the chapters, I have gone through those relevant for management of men and systems and they are very well explained.

In my opinion, we can track management to the very beginning of human civilization when society had to be organized to perform certain duties for its well-being building water channels, cultivating fields, etc. This brings us to the origins of the political sciences (Greek philosophers and Roman politicians and philosophers) and social science, division of labor, the meaning of organization. For example, strategic management origins are always associated with ancient Greece 'strategos' and his role during the war, in Eastern World the 'the Art of War' is considered the first strategic management book although wrote by Sun Zi in 5th century BC).
