I want the slider to stay in its peak position for some seconds and then keep on moving. It could be a 1 revolution rotation.
You would have to interrupt the supply to the crank by a switch for some time and then continue rotation...it can be done
There are different options.
- you can move the crank via a servo drive (a brushless electric motor) where the rotation has a variable angular velocity, defined by programming the digital drive. This is a versatile option, but very expensive. Even better: avoid the crank and the rod, and move just the slider via a linear brushless motor.
- if you want a reliable and cheaper solution that does not use digital drives, one (little known) trick is to use articulated mechanisms like the one in the picture I'm attaching here. Thanks to the 'sequence' of two linkages, one gets an approximate stop at the peak position of the rocker rotating in C0. Benefits: it is very robust, it can run at whatever speed. Problems: more mechanical parts involved, and the stop is not 100% exact.
- another completely mechanical option: get rid of the crank-rod-slider system and just use a cam-follower. For small displacements it would be my choice. Btw. you can also use it for larger displacement by amplifying the follower displacement via a linkage or a glyph.

You could use a geneva drive (maltese cross) with 4 slots and combine it with a gear of transmission ratio 4:1. One turn of the drive wheel leads to a quarter turn of the maltese cross. With the gear ratio 4:1 you can generate a complete turn at the crank. May be this works for your problem.
You can also make the length of connecting rod nearly equal to the crank or around 20% greater than the crank.That way the slider displacement looks like in Figure below and maybe a solution to your problem.
