Although some differences in NeuN expression regarding cell type have been described for other brain regions (e.g. cerebellum http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12868073) I haven't been able to find papers describing differences in NeuN expression between different neuronal subtypes in hippocampus. Does anybody know of any paper(s) describing this? Should I expect to find the same expression levels of NeuN (by immunostainning) in different neuronal subpopulations (Interneurons vs pyramidal cells) in hippocampus?

This has been really helpful. I wasn't using the right querys for my search. I didn't know the explanation, but this (NeuN-Neg/NeuN-low/NeuN-High) is exactly what I'm observing in the hippocampus.
