Hello,
for an experiment I'm considering doing, I would need to express a protein in a DE3 strain that would be able to use nitrate as final electron acceptor for respiration.
I know that a few years ago it has been published that the commonly used BL21 strain has metabolic deficiences, including "breathing" nitrate.
Sadly, all the DE3 strains I come across seem to be either BL21 or BL21 derivatives.
Does someone know of a commercial/readily available DE3 strain with "healty" nitrate reductase activity?

Do you need DE3 because you are using a T7 promoter? Can you use a T5 promoter instead? T5 promoter should work in any E. coli strain.
Or you could make your desired strain a DE3 lysogen using a commercially available kit like:
