We are looking for experts in the field of scientific computing particularly in datamining. I want to ask whether any database, social media site or resource of experts or researchers exists so that I may search colleague researchers in a particular field. If their is no such database, should we have such database which provides information about expertise available in our field? This will be helpful in collaboration, consultation and hiring a person. To some extent we can use Research Gate, LinkedIn and google scholar.
Raised question is very important and of great use. In my knowledge, there is no any scientific expert database except some social media sites that poorly maintains the expertise of a researcher. One can initiate working on such kind of fruitful database. Probably Raghava Sir, you are having good infrastructure, funding & expertise in India. IMTech can be a good place to start this work.
Great question. There are a few good starting points - Quora, Twitter feeds, Klout (which tracks influence), LinkedIn professional networks. By interlinking, validating and augmenting them with the likes of Google Scholar alerts, it may be possible to bootstrap such a repository.
If there is interest, I can write up a blog on how to go about it and this community can refine it.

This is a good question. I have had this problem before, though for a different discipline. Unfortunately, I am not aware that such a database exist. I have followed my own method to solve it:
1- See if their is an international society for this particular specialty. In the case of data mining, a simple Google search will give you a number of such international societies.
2-Look up experts attending conferences
3-Social media sites.
