The writer's cramp  is the same pathology as musician's focal dystonia (also referred to as musician's dystonia or musician's cramp). A pathology which I developed (as a former professional musician)  and recovered from at the Institut de Fisiologia i Medicina de l’Art-Terrassa (http://www.institutart.com/index.php/en/l-institut/presentacio) with Dr. Jaume Rosset i Llobet team. The focal dystonias such as writer's cramp are a serious challenge to  treat. Behavioral retraining attempts may include writing devices, switching hands, physical therapy, biofeedback, constraint-induced motion therapy, and others. Some writing instruments allow variations of pressure application for use. However, none of these are effective in all cases.  Some authors propose proprioceptive stimulation can induce neuroplasticity, making it possible for patients to recover substantial function that was lost from focal dystonia.

In concordance with Dr. Correia's advice, I'd also recommend having a look at the work by Prof. Dr. Altenmüller, who is research director at the "Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien", - " Hannover Institute of Music Physiology and Musician's Medicine", Hannover, Germany.

He focuses on musician's dystonia/musician's cramp, too, and has also published  rich material on this topic, concerning basis research as well as therapy.

I am really sorry that I could not clearly express what I mean... Apart from indeed very helpful medical Doctor's advises I see above, my suggestion was and remains to be of purely everyday-psychological significance ...

You should not concentrate on and be absorbed by the negative aspects, which are in effect ubiquitous...

Just point out all the positive aspects: I'm sure you are a good specialist in your field, and you like the most of your everyday work. You are employed in one of the most important academic organizations  in Sweden and all over the world, you are living at one of the nicest Swedish cities near the tremendous oceanic shore ... To sum up, your story looks like being much more positive than negative ...

Of course, there is a lot of diverse problems, also including the medical ones, but psychosomatics is a true wife of the Ancient Roman God named Janus Bifrons ...
