Commercial softwares generally use standard element for FEM. For example Abaqus library has max 20 node 3D brick element.
But if anyone wants to use like 4th order element or Spectral element, does he/she have to generate the shape functions by hand? Or is there any code that automated the process?

Thanks Muhammad Ali ! This gave me some insight. I actually have my own Matlab code that generates Shape function for 3D.
But, I was wondering that can be publishable. Looking for papers, I couldn't find any sources in google.

Yes, by putting some more theoretical and experimental efforts, it will be okay. You can also try its publication in some related conference.
