Great question Mr Madeti. My experience in this particular area is real-world, supported by empirical evidence. A professional athletic trainer sold me a pair of shoes ~10 years ago, and he also trained me how to walk in them. For the past 10 years I have been exclusively wearing these shoes, called “Vibram Fivefingers.”
As the athletic trainer explained, walking in a “barefoot” shoe tends to force a person to strike ball first when walking, instead of heel first. And when striking ball first, this alters both posture and gait. For example: Try standing on the balls of your feet and see if you can slouch or have bad posture. Then try standing flat footed with most of the weight on your heels, and feel how much easier it is to slouch and have bad posture.
The professional athletic trainer reinforced what I already knew about body mechanics from medical school: Walking in barefoot shoes causes one to stand more upright, with head up, shoulders back, and butt in. This produces significant changes in weight distribution on the spine, particularly the lumbar spine, and produces a significant shift in the body’s center of gravity.
Fast-forward 10 years, and I can tell you with certainty that changing my footware at the advice of one genius athletic trainer has definitely had a long-term impact on my body’s structural health. My posture and gait have forever changed. The shape of my feet has changed. The alignment of my toes has changed. The curves in my lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine have changed. So the answer to your question, based on empirical, real world observation, is “YES.”
