one of the my friend suffer from pyogenic liver abscess. Doctors prescribed piperacillin and tazobactam for five days then ciprofloxacine and metronidazole tablets for last 15 days. After the USG and contrast CT scan report shown, there is no changes in lives abscess. Is there any alternative treatment to completely cure pyogenic liver abscess without Drainage method?.
There is also surgical resection but usually reserved for cases in which malignancy cannot be ruled out or when drainage is not effective. Percutaneous drainage is the best choice in this case since antibiotic therapy for more than two weeks seems ineffective. If data improved remarkably during the therapeutic course, improvement in imaging data should follow soon. If not, then drainage should be performed.
The best option is Metronidazole treatment in high doses and during one month at least
The quality of the image is not ideal but we can see multiple and large abscess occupying the right lobe. Left liver is small so liver resection is not a good option at the moment. The cause of the abscess should, if possible, be found and the microbiological agent should be determined. Therefore, percutaneous drainage is our first option followed by intravenous antibiotic according antibiogram.
