You might consider to have them deep frozen in adequate portions and thaw them when necessary.

If I remember correctly the situation from about 2 decades ago, the staff in our ruminant nutrition group had a large number of plastic containers and filled them with a fixed amount of roughage (s size and weight to be handled by one person) and froze and stored them in a quite large freezing room at -20. Every day the required amount for the next day was removed as thawing took about 24 hours. Thus quite a logistic burden. The best of luck with your trial.
