I'm looking for the relationship between maximum object distance and object size in order to see the object.
For example how close does a person need to get to a 1mm bead to be able to note the position of the bead. I'm not intrested in how well someone could see the surface.
I expected to find something in ergonomics but not finding anything. I'd apprieciate it if anyone can direct me to useful sources.
Check "visual angle as a function of distance."
Also, perception of size is affected by surrounding objects (a rising moon can appear larger than its visual angle).
But noticing an object is not the same as recognizing it or reading letters.
