I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to separate human cells from mouse cells in a mixed population. There are some cell surface markers specific for mouse or human cells and may perhaps be used to FACS-sort the cells, but these markers may not be expressing adequately on any cell type one wants to work with. This (mixed mouse-human cells) is particularly a problem while dealing with xenograft models. So, one general way to think forward could be density-gradient or elutriation techniques; but for these techniques to be of general applicability, one has to assume that the mouse cells differ from the human cells in cell size or volume. I am not sure if this is true. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
