Here are the sample data entries of the survey where each respondent is allowed to choose as many as they want. What I'm thinking is to be able to sort out the answers into separte columns where each column contains that specific type (desired output.jpg), so far what text-to-columns has done is just the one in the picture (text to column output.jpg). Is there a way to do this automatically, so that when I export to SPSS, I can use multiple response sets to analyze the data? Thank you.
I think you might be best set up for SPSS if each new column has a 1 or 0 designated "yes" and "no" for the participant choosing the item. If your list of choices is in B2, and you would like your cell F2 to represent if the participant chose mango, write the following formula in F2:
=1-ISERROR(FIND("Mango",B2)
If you would like your data the way you wrote desired output, you would be able to write something similar, but using if/then to fill the cell how you would like. Here is what you could write in F2 for Mango:
=IF(ISERROR(FIND("Mango",B2),"","2. Mango")
