I have to do a simulation of multiphase gas flowing in a pipe that enters through a device, and that gas contains liquid as a disperse phase (as a mist), and for the particle injection in the simulation I need as an imput the size distribution or at least the mean size of the droplets. But the problem I'm facing is that I have no experimental/actual data and the droplet size is necesary for the simulation. The available data is: gas/liquid flow rate, temperature, pressure, gas/liquid viscosity and density, geometrical details of the pipe, liquid/gas surface tension. Thanks
I do not know what the gas or the liquid on which you are working. Experiments are undertaken in the area of droplet combustion applicable to IC engines. You may refer journal papers for related information.
I think you can use one of the atomizer models mentioned in Ansys theory guide.(such as, The Plain-Orifice Atomizer Model, The Pressure-Swirl Atomizer Model, The Air-Blast/Air-Assist Atomizer Model, The Flat-Fan Atomizer Model, The Effervescent Atomizer Model). These models use geometry data and empirical model to estimate the droplet size and distribution.
In Ansys FLUENT, such type of problems can be solved using DPM (Discrete Particle Model) for multiphase flows.

Thanks you all for your answers. As I said in the question, the flow in the pipe have a liquid dispersed as dropplets and I don't know how the dropplets are generated (how much turns, valvels, chokes etc. the flow went through), so its rather difficult to know their size and distribution. So, consulting with a specialist, he told me that the simplest way to afford this problem is doing the simulation with different sizes of dropplets and evaluate the flow in the device with them. Doing this, one can draw conclusions with a range of sizes and it is the most reliable answer one can get. I hope this would help you in future projects. Regards. Gonzalo
The simplest (and most correct) way is to actually measure the particle size distribution and not to simulate it...
Well, the point is that it is not as simple as you suggested. Specially when you have a gaseous phase that is at high pressure, the pipe is in a plant that you can't stop to make measurements and most important it can make a explosive mixture with the air. Regards
That was exactly the type of application that laser light scattering was developed for..... In your original question I do not see the terms 'high pressure', 'explosive mixture' etc that you introduce above. See also:
