I'm looking for a method for the determination of polysorbate 60, which is an excipient within a cream. Preferably I am looking for a method for LC either with low uv absorbence or perhaps using refractive index. GC is another option available however if a derivation is required there is a other excipients within the cream that could also interfere.
I am just wondering if anyone knows of a method or would be able to share some articles that could help

first you will have to enrich/clean the surfactant (solid phase extraction). Than determination with reverse phase HPLC with refractive index measurement should work.
We were looking into RI measurements, but currently don't have a detector. If you use RI would you be able to test this using a refractometer prior to the looking at purchase for the detector?

in principle yes. You could measure different surfactant concentration in the eluent and compare with the refractive index of the eluent. However, RI detector is a standard for HLPC of ethoxylates. You may enquire at the sales people about the detection limits. A good company should be able to give you related application notes. Unfortunately, it is long time ago when I was in touch with HPLC analysis of nonaromatic ethoxylates.
