Because of landslide and soil erosion modelling I need reliable satellite based data, model or estimation about mean annual/monthly precipitations, especially for mountain areas (far from gauges). I know that there are few satellite imagery products and missions like GPM, but I can't find suitable raster data or tool how to prepare mean annual estimation of precipitations. Do it is possible or do someone already have experience considering that possibility? I use WorldClim global model of precipitations but it is far from accurate on local scale. I try also with kriging, gridding and other methods of data interpolation from the local gauges but the result is not very convenient to me, especially for high-mountain areas. I suppose that satellite based product will be ideal for that purpose if something like that already exist. Thank you for any suggestion or information.

I don't think it is very practical. It is difficult to directly assess precipitation. But if you are able to find some substitute indexes, like the color of trees or other plants. Maybe you can extract precipitation information. Just an advice.
EUMETSAT H-SAF Precipitation product http://hsaf.meteoam.it/precipitation.php?tab=6 might be useful on larger scale. The resolution after conversion to .tif is 5 km. You must request an username nad a password in order to be able to download the products. The product describes accumulated precipitation at certain hours of the day and for certain periods. Datasets could be easily processed to reflect a yearly average but not for the long term though. They H-SAF could have already processed averages but not that I am aware of. You could browse their site or ask them.
