I need the data about the average length and thickness of snow cover for at least 5 years for few mountains in my country. Unfortunately, only a small number of meteorological stations have such measurement in the mountains, but they are also unreliable and relate only to the immediate environment. Is it possible (and how) to obtain such data with RS and satellite imagery (from MODIS or similar) in the form of raster grid? Or probably there is some kind of global model? Thanks for every help.
SPOT-VGT 1km allows estimation of snow-cover duration at the 1km resolution.
From first principle, snow-depth can neither be directly measured by available satellite imagery of relevant spatio-temporal resolution nor calculated from cumulative snowfall. The latter due to evaporation, melt, redistribution by wind and compression of the snow over the season.
