generally HCl is not preferred in organic reactions because HCl form polychlorinated organic halides if leashed during washing or degredation reaction and polychlorinated organic halides if realeased as efflent , is toxic and carcinigenic
Sulfuric Acid should be working accoridng to protocols for regular acid catalyzed etherformation that you find. Catalytic amount would be 0,5% of sulfuric acid, sometimes 0,1 or 0,2% are sufficient too, if you water removal is good enough. Maybe methanosulfonic acid or polyphosphorous acid, but the first trials you can try with sulfuric acid. Hydrochloric acid might not stay in the aqueos phase too, so your catalyst might be too low in concentration. Take care of peroxide formation if you want to produce a symetric ether !
