Dear Requester,
Laterite sand is a naturally occurring sand formed by the natural Chemical leaching processes of Sand stones, Igneous rocks etc, by the alternate wet and dry processes of the nature. Literature says that this type of sand is very rich in Iron and Aluminum. and poor in Silica content. This type of sand is highly suitable for road laying purposes. Not suitable for foundry purposes. Hope I am able to give some leads

Dear Sydney Opara , the answer is no. The high ironoxide content wil react with the liquid metal and will cause severe surface defects.
