In plinian eruptions there are pyroclastic density currents PDCs which are generated directly from the collapse of the eruption column, this collapse zone has a range of heights and is very useful to establish parameters for the modelling of this type of phenomenon, the question that arises is the following: Is there any numerical relationship in plinian eruption columns between the total column height and the column collapse height for the formation of pyroclastic density currents? What is the maximum collapse height of eruption columns for the formation of PDCs both experimentally and in direct observations of plinian eruptions?
